Beacons

While I could say that there are many great artists that I've 'discovered' (I'm taken with their style) there are three particular that in my formulative days, the mid-1970's, I should acknowledge as seminal influences: Chauncey F. Ryder, George Gardner Symons and Joaquin Sorolla.  The first two are Americans and I found their paintings at the Parthenon Museum in Nashville.  Sorolla is a Spaniard and was greatly enjoyed and appreciated in Madrid when I traveled there in 1980 and found myself in his home-studio-museum.  His brand of Painterly Realism has spoken so loudly and clearly to many artists, and an appreciative public, for almost 100 years.  For me Sorolla is a true master of brush and paint - an Artist with a capital "A".

These, then are my artistic beacons.
